Jakarta, InfoPublik – The number of foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia in December 2016 increased 12.87 percent compared to December 2015 (yoy)—from 986,300 to 1.11 million arrivals. It also increased 11.07 percent compared to November 2016.

Head of Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Suhariyanto said that the number of arrivals through 19 major gateways were 987,699. In addition, arrivals through other gateways were 134,629.

“The top three foreign tourist arrivals at the 19 major gateways were Ngurah Rai Airport at 485,260; Soekarno Hatta Airport at 241,610; and Batam at 143,250. Meanwhile, foreign tourist arrivals at other than 19 major gateways increased 36.76 percent," he said on Thursday (2/16).

Suhariyanto added that foreign tourist arrivals at Cross Border Post (PLB) reached 56,840—increasing 20.52 percent. Meanwhile, foreign tourist arrivals through other gateways also increased by 51.71 percent compared to December 2015.

According to the immigration data, the highest nationalities who visited Indonesia were Singaporean at 16.95 percent, Malaysian at 13.97 percent, Chinese at 11.07 percent, Australian at 9.96 percent, and Indian at 4.18 percent.

The activities and origin countries of foreign tourists could also be identified through mobile phones. The incoming and outgoing of foreign phone numbers roaming in the country could show foreign tourist visits in Indonesia. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
