Nusa Dua, InfoPublik – The Government of Indonesia wants to use Alibaba, a platform founded by Jack Ma, as a media to promote Indonesian local products to dominate the global market. One of the products is mangosteen.

“One of our leading products that need to be prepared is mangosteen. Indonesia produces a lot of good quality mangosteens and they are produced throughout the year, like durian production in Thailand,” said Head of Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) Triawan Munaf at Laguna Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, on Saturday (13/10).

Besides mangosteen, Jack Ma expects the Government of Indonesia to use Alibaba as a medium for tourism promotion. “Jack Ma also mentioned that Alibaba can be used to promote tourism because it does not operate only in China, but in all over the world,” Triawan said.

The same opinion comes from the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Rosan Roeslani. According to him, Indonesia has the potential to penetrate global market, reflecting from the track record of durian that sold by Thailand and Malaysia.

“At the previous annual e-commerce discount festival in China or eleven-eleven, 80,000 durians sold in one minute and 2,000 billion durians in total. It was Thailand and Malaysia that used this opportunity instead od Indonesia. Therefore, we must be more active,” Rosan said.

In the meantime, Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun, said that the Indonesian Government has published a number of requirements so mangosteen can be sold through Alibaba. “There are requirements to join Alibaba that must be met. One of our leading products that have met the requirements is mangosteen,” he further said.

In addition to mangosteen, Djauhari added, Indonesia has also published the requirements for swallow nest products. “It also has big potential because 70 percent of swallow nests in the Chinese market imported from Indonesia. (Dwi Hardianto/Gusti Andry/Translator: Mia)
